Literacy Histories and Early Memories

We've completed Unit One today, "Writing About Yourself". Brainstorming and writing an outline together helps to make the writing process more open and visible. Here's the link to the outline we did in class:
http://www.sfu.ca/~smbarber/falclass.htm REMINDER: There is no class Monday, May 21, but you have two assignments due on Wednesday, May 23: the final rewrite of "A Major Event in My Life", and either (1) "My Literacy History" or (2) "My Earliest Memory".
Here's the blog question for today: How do you write best? Do you like a very quiet space with no disruptions? Do you listen to music? Do you talk about ideas with someone else, or work through your ideas on your own?

I write a paper first. And then read through it couple times. Fix run on sentences and spelling error. I don not like very quiet space when i do homework or studying. I always listen music while studying. I don not use other people's idea but I used to concern that people's comment on my work and I like to work with other people better than work alone.

I will listen to music when I just start coming up with the ideas or brainstorming. Most of the time I work on my own, unless I have no ideas about the topic, then I may ask someone else to help me. But once i satrt putting the ideas into a draft, i would like to work at a quite place without any disruptions since I always tend to lose my attention. After finishing, I will find someone else to read over my article to see if there is anything I can do to improve it.

I usually listen to music when I write. The mood and the lyrics of the song can help me discover some ideas. Also, music can relax myself so that I can have a fresh brain to think about what to write. I only work through my ideas on my own, because I like my writting to represent my own thoughts but not others.

Question: How do you write best? Do you like a very quiet space with no disruptions? Do you listen to music? Do you talk about ideas with someone else, or work through your ideas on your own

Answer:
When I write a paper I tend to put on music that suits the tone of the paper if I want the paper to be up beat and happy I put on music that makes me feel that way, if I want it to be meaningful and full of emotions I will listen to music that is slower. Music is the only noise that doesn’t distract me everything else such as the TV or people takes my attention away from my writing. Depending on what the topic is I will talk to some one else about it but normally I work through my ideas on my own.

I like a very quiet space when im writing. I can't listen to music because im easily to be disturbed by following the music. Mostly I work through my ideas on my own, so i can say whatever i want.

I write best during the night, when everything seems to be quiet. When I am stuck, I would turn on the music and ideas will come. I work on my own all the time.

Usually, I write down everything coming on my mind. It may be a sentence, phrase, or short paragraph. Then, I connect them together, add more details, and make those ideas flow more smoothly on my paper. Finally, I review the paper to fix all spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and error structures, etc. I can’t listen to music while I’m writing, because I’m easily to be disturbed by a noise outside. So, I usually choose a very quiet place to write a paper, it makes me to concentrate on the writing.
Depending on what kind of paper I’m writing, if I’m writing on my own experience, I will work through my own ideas; otherwise, I would refer to discuss the ideas with other people.

For me, i would choose a place where nothing will interfere my writings. As well, I need a space that is absolutely quiet. With little music going on, i can hardly concentrate. So, no music please. I sometimes share my ideas with others, but most of the time i would have done it after summiting my essay.

Answer.
For me important is communication, a dialogue. At least imaginary as talking to the wall, but better live people. Otherwise assigned writing may become stressful, slow and boring. When I am stressed by difficulty, uncertainty or time pressure, I need public the most, but once I overcome stress, I am fine on my own. When I get a luxury of discussion, I am trying to jot notes. When I write I rarely listen to music. I may appreciate some level of noise from the public just for its humane presence, but not too much distraction. While writing I like reading wikipedia, dictionary and other sources. I am carrying small note book with me for the case ideas would visit me in the street or bus, but I never took any note for last half a year. I used to write on paper, but now almost solely on computer.

I guess the way I write the best is to write the paper first and then start to edit. If I don't think the paper is good enough I'll have a friend or family member also give a quick read and let me know what they think.

When writing I like to listen to music; I find it calming. If its really quiet I find that I can't focus on the task at hand and get distracted.

Usually when i write, i need a quite space and a comfortable envornment. I must have no disruption during my process of my writing. However when i am out of ideas, i need to listen to music to get some new refreshment and get ideas. I don't know why everytime i listen to music, i can always think of some new ideas. I dont really talk to people for ideas, because i think writing an essay is using your personal ideas. If i talk to people for ideas is like using other people's idea to write my essay.
